For many neurodivergent people, social connection can feel easier when it does not have to happen face-to-face across a table. Walking side by side, surrounded by nature, creates a different rhythm: less pressure, more movement, more space.
That is why we warmly welcome The Neurodivergent Hiking Group, an initiative by Neurodiversity Belgium. The group offers free guided walks for neurodivergent people and their families in and around the Forêt de Soignes / Zoniënwoud near Brussels. The walks usually take place on the first Sunday of the month, with occasional changes or extra themed hikes.
At BMHC, we believe that mental health support is not only found in consultation rooms. Shared movement, nature, peer contact and low-pressure social spaces can all contribute to wellbeing — especially when they are designed with neurodivergent experiences in mind.
The Hiking Group is not a clinical intervention, but it offers something deeply valuable: a welcoming setting where people can move, talk, be quiet, bring family, and connect at their own pace.
