Sometimes there are times in life when you feel like you’re stuck or you’ve been struggling with yourself for a long time and find that you can’t get out on your own. Psychotherapy may then be appropriate. Examples of help questions for which you can come to me: it’s getting too much for you, you don’t feel good about yourself but you don’t really understand why, you encounter difficulties in contact with others, you notice that certain patterns keep repeating themselves but you don’t know how to change this…

In psychotherapy, there are several movements. The four major currents are cognitive behavioral therapy, psychoanalysis and psychodynamic therapy, systems therapy and client-centered psychotherapy. My approach is based on the client-centered psychotherapeutic framework, although I sometimes draw inspiration from techniques and concepts from other streams.
Client-centered therapy focuses on the client as a person: who are you as a person and how do you stand in life? In the therapy, the therapist provides a safe context from which, taking into account your pace and personal limits, together we can explore how you got stuck and what is needed to get blocked processes moving again. In this approach, there is a strong emphasis on inner experience and how emotions guide our thinking and actions.
In therapy, you learn to know yourself better and be in deeper contact with your feelings and needs so you can make your own authentic choices. Important here is that the client is willing to adopt an inquisitive attitude toward himself and is willing to dwell on himself. Together we will explore how to better deal with your vulnerabilities and life’s challenges so that you can better handle them even after therapy is complete. Instead of focusing solely on complaints and symptoms, the therapy also places importance on your strengths and potential for development. For I believe that in our vulnerability we also find our inner strength.
In my method of working, I place great importance on our working relationship and how the contact between us works. I will regularly ask how you experience the therapy in order to adjust where necessary.
The first conversation will focus on your request for help and living situation. Together we try to come to an understanding of what is important for you to work on. In this exploratory conversation, expectations about the further process are also discussed and together we consider whether we want to engage in this process together.
In a later phase of therapy, we go deeper into important themes in your life. To this end, we may sometimes deviate from the initial request for help.
The frequency of sessions is agreed upon by mutual consent, taking into account your needs and abilities. It is usual to see each other weekly or biweekly because that way we can work more intensively on your problems. Depending on the process of therapy, this can of course be adjusted.
The number of sessions depends on the request for help and can be short-term or rather long-term. During counseling, we regularly reflect on how the therapy process is going.
Not sure if your help request qualifies? Would you like more information or wish to schedule an appointment? If so, do not hesitate to get in touch.
In 2013, I graduated as a clinical psychologist from the Catholic University of Leuven. Meanwhile, I work as an independent clinical psychologist and have worked as a volunteer psychologist for TEJO Brussels and Handicap International Belgium. In 2021, I started the specialization in client-centered psychotherapy at KU Leuven to further expand my professional knowledge and working framework.
From my own personal search, I know how exciting it can be to take the step to psychological counseling and that change takes courage and time. Therefore, I hope to be able to bring my clients closer to themselves and help them (re)discover what makes life truly meaningful and fulfilling. In my free time, I prefer to go out with my dog and find relaxation in good books and movies, good food and socializing with friends.
