For referring professionals
Brussels Mental Health Center is a multilingual, medically led centre for specialised mental healthcare in Brussels, where registered clinical psychologists, psychotherapists and professionals from other disciplines work together under the clinical supervision of a psychiatrist.
When you refer a patient, you refer them to a team that shares a patient record and holds structured internal case consultations. With your patient’s consent, you will receive written feedback. This fosters collaboration that benefits both patient care and the healthcare professionals involved.
To help meet the exceptionally high demand, we also offer one-off psychiatric consultations.
Reliable, specialized mental health care, close to the patient.
Four pillars of our care pathways
1. Registered healthcare professionals
Our clinical psychologists are registered with the Belgian Commission of Psychologists and hold a ComPsy registration number. Psychotherapy is provided exclusively by practitioners who have completed or are being trained in a recognised psychotherapy training.
2. Evidence-based
We follow international guidelines and work according to the principle of matched care, using approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy, EMDR, emotion-focused, mentalization-based, psychodynamic and person-centred psychotherapy, as well as other modalities such as mindfulness and body-oriented treatments.
3. Medically led
The centre is led by a psychiatrist. Psychiatric and psychotherapeutic care are coordinated within one team, with a shared patient record and structured clinical consultation. This reflects the collaborative care model, in which a psychiatrist is involved in an advisory role in the wider team’s care. According to a Cochrane review, this approach increased the short-term chance of clinical improvement by an average of 50% for anxiety and 32% for depression, compared with usual care.1
4. Written feedback
With the patient’s written consent, you will receive a report after the intake and upon completion of treatment or following any significant change in the care pathway, including when treatment is provided by a psychologist. Good information exchange between the GP and the treating clinician contributes to better coordinated care and better treatment outcomes.2
