As part of the NEED project (Need Examination, Evaluation and Dissemination), which aims to identify the unmet needs of people with psychotic disorders, a new survey has been launched.
The healthcare landscape is still too often shaped by available care services rather than the real needs of patients. For this reason, Belgium made ‘unmet medical needs’ one of the central themes of its presidency of the ‘Council of the European Union’ in the first half of 2024.
The ultimate goal is to ensure that all policy decisions regarding the development, provision, and reimbursement of healthcare interventions take into account the unmet needs of patients and society.
The NEED project, financially supported by Belspo and led by KCE and Sciensano, in collaboration with the Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (FAMHP), the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (NIHDI), and the Superior Health Council, aims to map out these needs.
With the NEED project, we hope to ultimately improve the health and quality of life of European patients, by informing various stakeholders – healthcare professionals, policymakers, health insurers, hospitals, researchers, and the industry – about the needs that are still unmet today.
